Blossom Stone Vase

When you travel in Indonesia you will see many different types of ceramics and potteries; you will notice its many different styles as well as cultural influences. What you may notice most is that many of these are made from terra-cotta, as it is an abundant natural material and is easy to work with and draw on.
This vase is one such example. Its lower half is coated with sand, and on it is a clever motif of cheerful flowers. The top half is painted a more dramatic black, with spiraling lines of orange to signal nature and the origins of the material. While terra-cotta is earthenware that’s porous, it works as a decorative piece outdoors as well, once it is glazed it is pretty much waterproof. Your garden deserved this.
